Park it yourself, Metallica breath.

A Building Block of Jess: "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead."

Coming Soon: "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" - the remake.
I haven't seen any previews yet, but Pajiba reported two months ago that the remake is definitely in the works, so I am expecting to be hearing a lot about this very soon. The movie is being produced by the Mark Gordon Company ("The Day After Tomorrow", "2012", "Saving Private Ryan"), and is currently said to be out to writers.

In case you lived under a rock from 1991 until now (or are having a hard time understanding the painfully self-explanatory title...), "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" the original, is a cult classic about five siblings whose wicked summertime babysitter dies in her sleep. Not wanting to call mom home from Australia, the eldest (played by Christina Applegate) decides to fabricate a resume, age herself from 17 to 28, and apply for a job with a big fashion-design company. She ends up landing an executive position, and, of course, lots of awesome 90's drama ensues.

Now, even though I am as big a fan of the 90's' second-coming as I was for the 80's' (pretty big...), I am not very excited about this.

I don't even know if I could say I'm happy.

It's not like the original is an excellent movie, or anything...in fact, not many movies from the 1990's are not hilarious to me at this point...I just don't see how anyone would be able to change it without ruining it, or redo it exactly without completely f*cking it up.

It's basically the opposite of the way I feel about the upcoming remake of "Adventures in Babysitting."

Do I think anything could ever be as great as the 1987 original (Chris Columbus' directorial debut)? Of course not.
Am I excited to see Jonah Hill take a shot at it? Oh, yeah.
In both cases, we will just have to see, won't we?

( FunFact:  In the first "Adventures...", Christina Applegate auditioned for the role of Sarah, the youngest charge. Isn't that a strange coincidence?)
