Jonah Hill,
(as photographed by Sam Jones)
the film's executive producer and only current headlining star, recently told MTV that the script is being "overhauled" to better suit the new directors' wishes, but that he thinks they'll be shooting this year. (IMDb lists the release date as 2012.)
Like its TV counterpart, the movie will center around a group of baby-faced rookie cops who go undercover as highschool students..."to deal with a drug problem," Hill said.
In an interview he gave last year to Complex (back when "Jump Street", the movie, was little more than dream in his heart), Hill announced that it would be an "R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John-Huges-type movie."
...No word yet on who will be playing Johnny Depp's character. All I know is, they're going to have one Hell of a time finding someone who looks even almost this cute on film:
Whoops. Wrong photo. I mean almost this cute:
I'll keep my ears open, but to be honest, I don't think there is anything Sony or Jonah Hill, or even co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) could do to this film to persuade me to watch it.
There are few things that I, personally, hate more than an action-comedy...
However,
it should be pretty interesting to see how Jonah Hill does with this kind of project. Unless I'm mistaken, he has done strictly comedy up to this point.
Aside from Superbad, he has also worked primarily as a supporting actor, so this should give him a chance to shine a little bit brighter.
He's a funny cat. Even though it's not my cup of tea, I think people should enjoy this movie.
